Terms of Use — NoteKar

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using the NoteKar Web Progressive Web App (PWA) or installing the NoteKar Android application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, you should discontinue using the app.

2. License & Open Source Philosophy

NoteKar is built under the MIT License as part of the YABP (Yet Another Boring Project) initiative.

You are free to use, inspect, modify, and distribute the software in accordance with the terms of the MIT License, provided that the original copyright notice and license permission notice remain included in all copies or substantial portions of the software.

3. Offline Storage & User Responsibility for Data Backups

Because NoteKar is an offline-first application storing data directly on your local device (via IndexedDB on Web and Hive/SharedPreferences on Android):

Data Ownership: You have full ownership and control over your recorded timestamps and notes.
Data Retention: If you clear browser cache, un-install the app without Android OS auto-backup enabled, or lose access to your device, your locally saved logs will be permanently erased.
Exporting Data: We strongly advise using the built-in CSV/JSON export tools in Settings to keep periodic personal backups of important entries. NoteKar developers cannot retrieve or restore lost local data.

4. Permitted Use & Conduct

NoteKar is intended for personal productivity, time logging, and notes. You agree not to use the app for any illegal purposes or to attempt distributing tampered or malicious release binaries posing as official NoteKar releases.

5. App Updates & Notifications

We continuously improve NoteKar by publishing updates, bug fixes, and performance enhancements. The app checks for software releases over public GitHub / web channels. You can control notification preferences directly in your system settings.

6. Disclaimer of Warranties & Limitation of Liability

      THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NONINFRINGEMENT. IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY CLAIM, DAMAGES OR OTHER LIABILITY, WHETHER IN AN ACTION OF CONTRACT, TORT OR OTHERWISE, ARISING FROM, OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE SOFTWARE OR THE USE OR OTHER DEALINGS IN THE SOFTWARE.

We reserve the right to update or modify these Terms of Use at any time. Any updates will be posted to this page with an updated effective date.
